Tramp Light Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (Inc.) The Club is a member of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (FMC). The FMC consists of over 100 clubs specialising in tramping, walking, mountaineering, skiing, canoeing, mountain biking and hunting. (Click on the FMC logo above to go to their web site) Total membership is over 14,000. FMC's objectives are to promote its specialist activities, training and safe use of the back country and its preservation and sound management. FMC also works to protect rights of access to the countryside. Its quarterly magazine, the FMC Bulletin, is distributed free to club members and contains news, views, philosophy and other information. Club members also receive a discount card for travel, accommodation, etc. Member clubs range from single interest groups to large alpine and tramping clubs. Clubs range in size from up to 600 members, running a range of trips each weekend, to small groups of 20-50 enthusiasts. The club forwards $10.00 for each member to FMC as affiliation fees each year. The amount is forwarded as one total payment in May. Early payment of your subscription each year helps the club with its payment to FMC. Ruapehu Mountain Clubs Association Public Access New Zealand (PANZ) Search and Rescue2001 International Year of Volunteers Over the years, the Club has significant involvement with search and rescue. We have club members who are members of the Hamilton Search and Rescue Group, which comes under the umbrella of the national body known as, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue Incorporated. Any club member who is interested in search and rescue and would like to become involved in a search team is welcome to contact the group. Members of teams are given full training including searching and tracking at night. If you do not wish to be in a search team, but would like to contribute, there are other positions available, such as organising and running searches and search team support. |
