Our First Defence Against Cold and Exposure is our Clothing
Day Trip GearA thermal layer (polypropylene, polyester etc or wool - T-shirt is OK in summer), an insulating layer of fleece (polartec etc.) or wool and a water and wind proof parka outer shell*. Shorts or longjohns / overtrousers* in cool or wet weather, torch, and sunscreen. Boots or strong shoes. Lunch, snacks and water bottle. Personal first aid kit. Weekend Trip GearThe above plus pack* with plastic liner bag, sleeping bag*, tent, sleeping mat, cooker*, billy*, plate or bowl, spoon, food, spare dry clothes to put on at night, towel, toilet gear. Light camp shoes and a water purifier* can be useful. Plus in cold weather, open country and mountains: additional warm top, woollen or fleece trousers, warm outdoor mittens or gloves, over-mitts, warm hat or balaclava, sunglasses. Ice axe* and crampons for snow. Waikato Hut Trip GearWeekend and mountain gear plus pillowcase and hut shoes. Crockery, cutlery, pots & utensils are provided and on official Club Trips, food as well. |
